Colony of Lies

Colin Brake

2003

The Doctor, Zoë and Jamie had arrived to find the TARDIS had landed in a wrecked starship with no evidence of life aboard. While looking for a way out, the trio get shot at almost before they could announce their presence

Once the metal had stopped flying and the dust more or lest settled, Jamie's been carried off by the rebels and one of them left behind badly wounded.

Oh, and the grandson of the sheriff had run off with the rebels…

Zoë and the Doctor found that the brainchild of the great Stewart Ransom who had come to believe that technology in the 24th century had gone too far. So his colony is deliberately low tech; a situation enhanced when their starship is shot down on its final approach. That disaster had crippled the colony and now, a hundred years later it was clear to even the most fundamentalist of the Back-to-Basics Loyalists that their Founder's policies were leading to the colony's destruction. The breakaway Realists wanted to implement the appropriate technology, but they're only a small group themselves.

One of the Realists had uncovered an alien cache near their mountain fastness. But his fiddling had activated machinery that would have better been left unfound!

The Back-to-Basics people were suffering from a culture shock of their own as EarthGov contacted them with the news that eighty thousand transportees are about to descend on the planet.

Will the Doctor be able to stop Earth's plans for the planet while helping the current colonists rebuild their colony in a more sustainable fashion?
