Bob Shaw

(Born 1931, died 1996)

His full name was Robert Shaw and he was born in Northern Ireland though he worked in the mainland from 1975, when he became a full-time writer. Before becoming a writer, Bob worked as a Structural Engineer, then in aircraft design and finally in industrial public relations and journalism. He was involved in science fiction from an early age and had his first story published in 1954. One of his best known stories must be "Light of Other Days" (1966), which introduced the concept of 'slow glass' in which light could be trapped, to be released a number of years later. Along with a number of sequels, the above novella was published in novel form in 1972.
