Joe Haldeman

(Born 1943, died ??)

Joe Haldeman has a BSc in physics and astronomy. He served in Vietnam as a combat engineer where he was severely wounded, earning a Purple Heart. His experience of actual combat in Vietnam lead him to a rather bleaker view of military service than Robert A. Heinlein in Starship Troopers.

His first Science Fiction story was written in 1969 for Galaxy but he came to prominence with The Forever War.
