Samual R Delany

(Born 1942, died ??)

Born and brought up in Harlem he was educated at the prestigious Bronx High School of Science - his father having done well in the funeral parlour business. This has left him with a dual perspective on life which is evident in his writings.

Mr Delany was a youthful prodigy and unusually for SF authors his first foray into the field was a full length novel - The Jewels of Aptor. Later versions of this book restore large parts of those cut from the edition published by Ace books. He has generally been considered in the fore-front of the New Wave movement, emphasising the softer sciences, psychological thoughts and mythological elements over the hard sciences.

While suffering a hiatus in his writing career between 1969 and 1975, he started looking at literary criticism and has received a number of awards for his efforts in the field.
