Isaac Asimov

(Born 1920, died 1992)

Dr Asimov was born in 1920 in the Soviet Union. He emigrated along with his parents to the United States of America in 1924 where a younger brother was born. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and lived there most of his life, the only time he really left when he was called up for military service. He died in 1992 just weeks after completing Forward the Foundation, which was to be the final novel in his Foundation sequence. His doctorate was in biochemistry - another chemist not following through on their qualifications :-).

Altogether, there are over three hundred books of various types published under his name.
